To mark the October Revolution’s centenary, the NTV broadcasting company screen the novel “Sisters”, the first part of Alexey Tolstoy’s trilogy “The Road to Calvary”. The film conveys the atmosphere of rioting Saint Petersburg, the sentiments and the views of the creative and social elites of that time, which supported and, in many ways, made the revolution come true.

Russian history in the years 1914-1919 is reflected through the story of two sisters. The expectation of change, World War I, the overturn in people’s minds, the Revolution, the hope for better life, the Civil War are the main milestones of the film. Friends and relatives end up on opposite sides of the barricades, and the yearning for a brighter tomorrow, for which a blood price has been paid, will pave the road to Calvary.
