Alexander Tsekalo (born 22 March 1961 in Kiev) is well known in Russia and former countries of USSR musician, actor, radio and TV host and producer, a celebrity and public persona. 

Alexander studied at Stage Performance Academy in Kiev, Ukraine.

  • His entertainment career starts in 1986 when Alexander creates a music group “Cabaret – duo Academy” which later becomes extremely popular due to duo’s eccentric and humorous performances and video clips. Duo is invited to host several popular TV shows, and Alexander soon finds his interest in TV production and as his creative and constructive potential meets growing demand of newly born Russian television industry, he chooses television as his main passion. 


  • His devotion to TV is cemented from 2002 till 2007 as he works on a position of General Producer at the first Russian Entertainment channel ‘CTC’


  • In 2007 Alexander makes his next big step and joins "Channel One" creative team as Deputy General Director heading special projects of the channel.


  • His work includes producing and being a TV host of such TV hits in Russia as «Bolshaya Raznitsa», «Projectorparishilton», «Thanks God, you’re here», «Good Jokes», «South Butowo».


  • In parallel with his TV career Alexander has found a new side of his talent performing as a film producer in such Russian box-office hits as: «The Day of Radio», «What do men talk about», «What do men still talk about», «Some like it cold», «Locust»


  • In 2008 Alexander launches his own Production Company ‘Sreda”( from Russian it’s translated as milieu or environment and also its homonym means Wednesday) which from the beginning concentrates on producing shows and TV series for ‘Channel one’.


  • Alexander’s current drama producer’s score counts such high-rated and audience acclaimed projects as: «The Other Side of the Moon» (adaptation of BBC series ‘Life on Mars’ for Channel One, in 2012 voted the best series of the year), «The other side of the moon, Season 2», «Major» ( international title “Silver Spoon”, first Russian drama acquired by Netflix) , «Locust», «Fartsa», «Klim» (adaptation of BBC’s “Luther”), «As good as it gets», «Method», “The Territory”, “Sparta”, “The Secretary”, “Vera’s revenge”, “House of Porcelain”, “The Million”, “Trotsky”. Alexander’s work has been marked by multiple professional awards.


  • In present creative team of Sreda leaded by Alexander is focusing on creating its own original programming with spotlight on prime-time drama. Its partners and content customers are major Russian TV channels and new media platforms such as: Channel One, Russia, NTV, Ren-TV, TV Centre. Titles from Sreda’s content library are solidly represented in the primetime of neighboring countries – on Ukrainian TV channels ICTV, 1+1, Inter and on Belorussian Channel “First”. Sreda has various international and world-known partners: BBC, SevenOne International, Hat Trick, Fremantle Media, Telefe, Friday TV and as of today is ready not only to acquire existing successful scripted formats but also offer to the international markets its own creative ideas and projects and form new creative partnerships and co-productions. Selection of the newest company original series “Trigger” to the finale of MIPDRAMA competition this year and show "The Territory" last year shows its strong international potential.
