Gary Carter trained as an actor in his native South Africa, before moving to Britain in the 1980s, where he became an agent.   He represented writers, producers, directors and choreographers before becoming active in the emerging format industry.   In 1996 he joined Planet 24, where he lead the second phase of the development of Survivor, and licensed the first productions of the series.    In 1998 he joined Endemol, where he became Executive Director of Programme Affairs for Endemol International, overseeing the management and distribution of the Endemol catalogue.   He oversaw the roll-out of Big Brother, and acquired the licences for 15 European territories of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (Celador).   In the early 2000s he joined FremantleMedia, and became first President, Creative Networks, and later Group COO.   In 2012 he joined Shine Group, as Chairman, Northern Europe and Chairman, Shine 360, and later with responsibility for the central creative division, Shine Network.   After the merger between Endemol and Shine, he became Co-CEO, International Operations at the new entity, and oversaw the integration of the two organisations in Northern Europe, before leaving the company.   He is currently Non-Executive Director of KLOK, the Helsinki-based creative content agency, and a Non-Executive Director of K7 Media.
